Cite: Plagiarism & AI Detector
Terms of Use
These terms are an agreement between you and Scotly Apps Ltd for the Cite app on iPhone, iPad and Mac. By using Cite you accept them. Apple's standard end user licence terms also apply where they do not conflict.
What Cite does, and what it does not promise
Cite compares your writing with public web pages and academic papers, estimates how much it reads like AI-written text, finds grammar and spelling issues, rewrites sentences and formats citations. These are aids, produced by automated systems: a match may be a coincidence, an unflagged sentence may still be copied, and the AI-writing score is an estimate, never proof. Cite is not a substitute for your own judgement, your institution's checker or an editor. You are responsible for the honesty of work you submit and for following your institution's rules.
Your content
Your writing stays yours. You give us only the permission needed to check it, as described in the Privacy Policy. You must have the right to check what you submit, and you must not use Cite to break the law, to harass anyone, or to pass off others' work as your own.
Free use, Pro and top-ups
Cite checks a limited amount of text for free. Pro is an auto-renewing subscription (weekly, monthly or yearly) bought through the App Store, with a word allowance per period shown in the app before you buy. A top-up pack adds a fixed number of words that do not expire. Allowances are per device identifier and are there to keep the service fair; unused words in a subscription period do not carry over. Prices are shown in the App Store in your local currency and may change for new periods with notice from Apple.
Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation. A subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, through your App Store account settings. A free trial, where offered, converts to a paid subscription unless cancelled before it ends. Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies.
Fair use
We may limit or suspend use that is automated, shared between many people, or clearly intended to resell the service or to get around allowances.
Availability
We aim to keep Cite working at all times, but it depends on third-party search and AI providers and may be unavailable or partial (for example when web search is down, the app says so). We may change or withdraw features with reasonable notice.
Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for academic, professional or financial consequences of relying on Cite's results, or for indirect losses. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in the EU or elsewhere, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of your country.
